Christine and I don't watch many reality shows, preferring programs that give writers work instead.
However, we watch avidly the endeavor that is celebrated in Bravo's Project Runway, which returns with a new season later this month.
We hadn't noticed news of last year's winner Jay McCarroll in a while, but Christine discovered today he'll be offering a spring line at the September fashion week.
Unlike many designers--including Kenneth Cole who's reportedly using fur trim--McCarroll's going fur free in his efforts, according to a release from The Humane Society of the United States.
Given inhumane conditions at fur farms, especially those in countries where no humane treatment laws exist, it's wonderful to see a new designer taking a stand.
Bravo, Jay.

Considering the quality of fake fur these days, and the fact that no one really needs fur for warmth anymore, I'm with you on the anti-fur trail. Man, I saw a horrid video about, I think, the Chinese killing dogs and cats for their fur to sell to the Western world. Sick.
If it weren't for the market in fur and other supposed desirables made from animal slaughter, various species wouldn't be on the edge of extinction; in the case of the White Rhino, it's already too late as it's been declared hunted to extinction this week by poachers. That's it. Gone. No more. Only in books, and parents of conscience the world over will have to explain to their children once again why a terrible thing happened when people knew for years it was coming... x
